Ambition comes to the narcissist like a tail to a cat. It gives power and persistence. Maybe not for all narcissists though, only for those who are genuine to the world at the same time as confounding themselves as the best. Only those that are a juxtaposition of reason and a lack thereof. He was this type. His destiny was powered by his ambition. The latter could inspire such strong emotions in him that he could work all day and all night. His hunger was so great and so difficult to satiate. This is why his ambition persisted: To fill the void between his current state and what it was destined to be. The interesting thing about ambition is that it acts similarly, or even as a function, of the narcissists ego. When he takes a hit, incurs some loss, for a moment, however brief, his ambition falters. Like a car that has entered a slide, it can either correct or spin out. What makes the difference is the driver: if he handles the vehicle properly, it will correct. The same happens with ambition. If properly directed, it will return to its stable track. Otherwise, the person may lose their hold on it. He directs it towards the sky.
